⚡ What happens when contacts start or stop matching sync rules

A complete reference of sync actions per app — what Outfunnel does when contacts enter or leave your sync filters.

Updated this week

When you set up a contact sync between two apps with Outfunnel, three key events determine what happens to a contact in the destination app:

  1. When the contact first matches the filter

  2. Ongoing changes aka field changes (while the contact is in sync)

  3. When the contact stops matching the filter.

This article provides a complete reference of what happens when contacts starts matching and stops matching the segment so you know exactly what to expect.

Sync actions by destination app

Base action

  • Outfunnel first looks for an existing lead/contact/row/item based on the email address. If found, a link is created with the existing object.

  • If an existing object is not found a new object is created.

  • If multiple objects are found with the same email address then the link is made with the oldest contact and no duplicates will be created.

Additional actions

  • Optionally update field(s) in the destination app with a custom value

FAQ

What happens when you remove a sync rule or change the target segment?

Regardless of the destination app, contacts are not removed or unsubscribed when you delete the contact sync rule or change the target segment. The "stops matching" behavior described above only applies when individual contacts fall out of the sync rules due to changes in their data.

What happens when I merge a contact?

Outfunnel also supports merging contacts with the same email. After you've merged a contact you may see the contact getting unsubscribed from the destination app if the contact you merged to was not in sync but they will get resubscribed in the next sync given that the email address is the same.
