Create a tracking link for Pipedrive Campaigns, Brevo (formerly Sendinblue), ActiveCampaign, Sales enablement tools, and more

Updated over a week ago

Outfunnel's website visitor tracking feature shows you which leads are visiting your website, where they come from, and which pages they've been on. Learn more.

To be able to track the leads, Outfunnel needs to identify leads from form fills and/or email link clicks. This article explains how to create tracking links for any email with Outfunnel's tracking link generator.

How it works

Outfunnel creates a unique tracking URL that you can add to your email campaigns. Once someone clicks on the tracked URL that leads back to your website, Outfunnel will be able to tie their visit to their email and show this in the Identified visitors feed, and sync the visit to your CRM, including the lead source.

If you are using Mailchimp to send emails

  1. Integrate Mailchimp with Outfunnel

  2. In Mailchimp:

    1. One-off campaigns. Open one-off campaign > go to Settings & Tracking > edit > tick the "e-commerce link tracking" checkbox

    2. Ongoing campaigns. Open ongoing campaign > Edit Workflow Settings > tick the "e-commerce link tracking" checkbox

    3. Journeys. E-commerce link tracking is not supported. Use the tracking link generator in the next step

  3. Send out the campaign and click on the link that leads back to your website

  4. Contact will appear in the Identified visitors feed in 5 minutes (contact needs to exist in the CRM)

If you are using any other email or sales platform to send emails

  1. Insert the link that you'd like to send and track in your email campaign and choose the marketing tool

  2. Copy the generated link

  3. Now that you have the tracking link, add it to your email in the spot where you'd normally add a link/URL

  4. Send out the campaign as usual

  5. When recipients click on the tracked link, they will appear in the Identified visitors feed in 5 minutes (Please note they need to exist in your CRM prior to sending out the campaign)

๐Ÿ’กEven if you don't see your app listed you can still create tracking links. Simply find the unique merge field in your app that renders the recipient email. Then, simply suffix the URL that you would like to track with ?of_tpem=[email]. In this case the merge field is [email] but depending on the app it may look different (ie {{email.address}}). If you are using one-to-one email sending

One-to-one email sending systems like Gmail, Outlook, and CRM's built-in email composer don't usually support merge fields so you would need to append the URLs manually with ?of_tpem=[insert email address].

For example, if I am sending an email to markus@outfunnel.com and want to direct them to outfunnel.com then the URL would be outfunnel.com?of_tpem=markus@outfunnel.com.

While this requires manual work per email it would still allow you to track one-on-one emails.

Tips and tricks

  • Before sending out the email we recommend sending a test email to yourself to ensure the links work as expected. You would want to ensure that the email merge field in the link is populated with the recipient's email address and that the visitor arrived in the Identified visitors feed in 5 minutes.

  • Outfunnel automatically adds a UTM tag to the URL so the lead visit can be attributed to your email. You are welcome to remove or edit this. The important tag that should remain is: ?of_tpem={{email}}. Read further about lead attribution.
